Welcome to our 4th challenge of the year. You can find our previous ones here.
In our hyper-connected world, maintaining focus has become increasingly challenging. The constant barrage of notifications, emails, and digital distractions fragments our attention and diminishes our ability to engage deeply with meaningful work.
This 21-day challenge is designed to help you reclaim your attention and develop stronger focus muscles through deliberate practice and awareness.
1️⃣ Awareness
Our attention is under constant siege. From the moment we wake up to when we go to bed, we face a stream of interruptions that scatter our focus and prevent us from engaging in deep, meaningful work.
The cost of these distractions goes beyond lost productivity - it affects our ability to think clearly, make decisions, and maintain mental clarity. When we're constantly switching between tasks, we're not just losing time; we're diminishing our capacity for sustained attention.
By developing awareness of our attention patterns and distractions, we can begin to take back control of our focus and direct it intentionally toward what truly matters.
2️⃣ Intention
For the next 21 days, you'll systematically strengthen your focus through deliberate practice:
Daily Focus Blocks: Schedule two 25-minute periods of completely uninterrupted focus dedicated to work or a hobby
Technology Audit: Track and log every interruption that breaks your concentration
Environment Setup: Create a designated space for focused work
Progress Journal: Document your daily focus score (1-10) and insights
The goal isn't to eliminate all distractions - that's unrealistic.
Instead, we're building the capacity to maintain focus despite distractions and to choose deliberately where we direct our attention.
3️⃣ Action
First Steps:
Establish your baseline:
Track your current focus patterns for 2-3 days
Note when you're most and least focused
Identify your primary distraction triggers
Set up your environment:
Create a dedicated workspace
Remove or silence obvious distractions
Have necessary tools readily available
Build your support system:
Share your challenge with colleagues/family
Request their support in maintaining boundaries
Find an accountability partner
Common Obstacles:
Digital addiction - the urge to check devices constantly
FOMO - fear of missing important notifications
Difficulty saying "no" to interruptions
Tips for Success:
Start small - begin with 25-minute focus blocks
Use the rule of 3 - identify your three most important tasks each day
Practice self-compassion when you slip
Celebrate small wins and progress
Remember: Focus is like a muscle - it strengthens with consistent training and weakens with neglect.
This challenge is about building that muscle gradually and sustainably.
